The tolerant attitude and spirit of camaraderie portrayed by Sabahans and Sarawakians can be emulated by the people in the peninsular in maintaining social harmony among the community, said UMNO Youth deputy chief, Khairul Azman Harun.
He said the high mutual respect and understanding between the people of Sabah and Sarawak have helped create a harmonious atmosphere thus making the two states very special.
He said positive values and elements must be applied among the society in the peninsula as they are currently being exposed to a variety of social ills including bullying.
“I am always delighted to see the people living together in peace and close harmony in Sabah and Sarawak. This situation can be used as a benchmark for people living in the peninsula.
“The lack of mutual respect and consideration contribute to unhealthy practices such as bullying,” he told reporters at an iftar dinner with Sabah UMNO Youth in Kota Kinabalu, Monday.
Meanwhile, Khairul Azman said UMNO Youth members too have a responsibility to play in inculcating good moral values and attitude in the young to help build good character in youths.
At the event, a total of 50 orphans from Suria Welfare Foundation were presented with duit raya.
