To better understand the issue, ‘Sabahkini’ spoke to Mak Khuin Weng, the organizing chair of the rally held on 25 January 2015, which saw several hundred residents objecting to the construction of the controversial highways and its inclusion in the Selangor State Structural Plan Exploratory Report.
One may ask, why the strong objection and what are the key concerns of the residents? Are their grievance justifiable? Does the Selangor State Government have an alternative plan? Will it be business as usual, once these issues do not make it to the front page of the news?
Mak Khuin Weng who contested in the ‘Bukit Gasing’ state seat in 2013, was a MBPJ councillor and an advocate for two major issues. They are:
1.Freehold land titles for Petaling Jaya.
2.Implementation of development rules in a transparent and accountable manner.
He was a journalist for a leading national daily for more than a decade and has written a book titled-‘The Truth About Petaling Jaya Land’
