Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak today expressed the need for politics in the country to adapt the Blue Ocean Strategy and be prepared in terms of digital politics and big data to manage election information.
“Doing this is not easy and, therefore, we have to improve the people’s political education in accordance with the development of knowledge and technology today,” he said in a post on his blog, sskeruak.blogspot.my.
The Communication and Multimedia Minister, said that under the Blue Ocean Strategy, political support was created, not forced. Creating this support required expertise, thought and planning, he added.
Citing examples, he said studies showed that political figures such as (former US president) Barack Obama, (Canadian Prime Minister) Justin Trudeau and (French President) Emmanuel Macron used the Blue Ocean approach in their campaigns.
Obviously, their campaigns used digital information, accurate and fast news, attractive political product offerings, simple and energetic delivery of communication to the people, and an easy-to-understand and clear manifesto.
“As Albert Einstein said, ‘Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler’,” he said.
Salleh said the Blue Ocean Strategy was introduced in 2005 by Prof W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne in their book ‘Blue Ocean Strategy’, which was different from the Red Ocean Strategy.
“The Red Ocean Strategy refers to the atmosphere of competition in business while the Blue Ocean Strategy refers to the creation of market space where there’s no competition in business.”
“In politics too, the Red Ocean Strategy is synonymous with blood, death, injury and resentment with adversaries. Therefore, this approach should be avoided,” he said.
The Blue Ocean Strategy, he said, was synonymous with focusing on the real issues in politics, and prioritising strategies and planning in making political decisions.
“Indeed, the Blue Ocean Strategy is not just for business activities,” he said.
