Chow Is Natural Choice To Replace Guan Eng As Chief Minister

Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow would be Lim Guan Eng’s natural choice to replace him as the chief minister, should anything happen to Guan Eng.

Guan Eng however said finally it was all up to the party to decide whether Chow would be the one who would replace him.

“So if anything happens to me, I think the final decision will be decided by the party but Chow will definitely be my natural choice,” he told reporters in Seberang Prai, Saturday.

Chow, who is the state local government, traffic management and flood mitigation committee chairman, has been rumoured to replace the chief minister if Guan Eng is found guilty of any corruption charge.

Meanwhile, Chow who was also present at the event, said he always believed that the decision depended on the party and at the moment, it was still premature to decide anything.

“We have to respond because of intense media attention, so I think this is the response that we can make,” he said.

Police To Consider Issuing Curfew Exception Permit To Fishermen, Boat Operators Who Install AIS

Sabah Police will consider issuing a Curfew Exception Permit to deep sea fishermen and trawler boat operators in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone) who have installed the Automated Identification System (AIS) on their boats.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun said this was to ensure and encourage that all deep sea fishermen and trawler boat operators to install the system before the deadline of Aug 8.

“The Curfew Exception Permit is issued by Sabah Police Commissioner through district police chiefs. I will consider issuing the permit to those who cooperated in installing the AIS,” he told reporters.

Abdul Rashid said the mandatory installation of AIS policy for deep sea fishing boats and trawler boats was aimed at ensuring their safety while being fishing in the ESSZone.

“I hope those who have yet to install the AIS would do so immediately. If they didn’t install the system, then how are we going to locate them if they went missing or faced difficulties at sea?” he added.

Pakatan Partners Risk Losing Seats In Penang Snap Polls - Nurul Izzah

Partners of the ruling Pakatan Harapan face the risk of losing seats if snap polls are held in Penang, said PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar.

She said that with the possibility of three-cornered contests, UMNO (or the Barisan Nasional) stood a better chance of winning in the snap polls which the DAP proposed to call.

Penang has 40 seats, of which 19 are held by the DAP, 10 by PKR, 10 by BN and one by PAS.

Nurul Izzah said PKR was committed to working together under the Pakatan Harapan umbrella and that any decision on snap polls would be a collective one.

“I will give the due full respect to DAP and Parti Amanah Negara under the Pakatan Harapan umbrella,” the Lembah Pantai MP told reporters.

Nurul Izzah was asked why PKR was reluctant to agree with its Pakatan Harapan allies DAP and Amanah to hold the DAP-proposed snap elections in Penang.

The issue over the state election was raised when the local media reported that DAP had listed two options following the corruption charges faced by Guan Eng.

One option was to hold a snap election to gauge the Penang citizens’ response towards the charges against Lim and the other was to wait for the next general election, due by August 2018.
