DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang,76, has successfully undergone surgery to remove a malignant tumor and is expected to recover from stage 1 cancer, said his son Lim Guan Eng today.
Kit Siang who is also the Gelang Patah Member of Parliament, had undergone the surgery on Dec 19 to remove a malignant tumor in his left kidney, according to the party secretary-general.
“The laparoscopic partial nephrectomy went well and doctors expect him to recover to his former state without any complications.
“Thankfully, the malignant tumor was detected when Kit Siang underwent a routine medical checkup. A biopsy performed on the tumor found that was cancerous but at stage 1. Doctors also expect him to recover completely from this.
“Kit Siang is now recovering from the surgery and has started walking around to stretch his legs,” Guan Eng said in a statement.
Laparoscopic partial nephrectomy is a surgical technique used to remove tumours without affecting the kidney.
Guan Eng also announced that replacements have since been appointed to fill Kit Siang’s role in his constituency.
“Throughout his recovery, any work in Gelang Patah will be handled by his special representative Ng Siam Luang along with the DAP Gelang Patah office.
“Johor DAP chairperson and Klang MP Liew Chin Tong will assist in overseeing the field work while he is away,” he said.
