Labuan’s strategic location between Sabah and Sarawak should be fully capitalized to make it a federal administrative center, said Labuan MP Datuk Rozman Isli (BN-Labuan).
He said federal administrative matters were centered in Putrajaya and that it was time that Labuan was considered to be a federal administrative center focusing on Sabah and Sarawak.
“Labuan can be an “extension of Putrajaya” if devolution of powers are given to Sabah and Sarawak,” he said when debating the motion of thanks for the Royal address in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday.
He also said Labuan’s development could not solely depend on the oil and gas industry but needed supporting industries like shipping, besides tourism and making the duty-free island and education hub.
“Labuan symbolizes unity (Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia) and it is like a pearl that needs to be polished,” he added.
