The DAP backs Parti Amanah Negara in the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections because Amanah is its partner, along with PKR, in the Pakatan Harapan pact, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
He said DAP did not have any agenda in supporting Amanah.
“It is too much to accuse us (DAP) of having a specific agenda. I do not want to get involved in such polemics,” he told a press conference today.
Guan Eng was commenting on a claim by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang that DAP was backing the Amanah candidates in the by-elections because the party was bent on checking the Islamic struggle brought by PAS.
Abdul Hadi said Amanah was contesting the two by-elections merely to split the votes for the opposition.
Guan Eng said DAP and Amanah had the same objective and agenda, which was to oppose the Barisan Nasional.
The Kuala Kangsar by-election is a four-cornered contest among BN, PAS, Amanah and an Independent and the Sungai Besar by-election, a three-cornered fight among BN, PAS and Amanah.
