The number of registered voters in Sabah has increased to 1,117,337 from 982,644 during the 13th general election (GE13) said state Election Commission (EC) director Rohiman Sahia.
He said the number of registered voters in Labuan for the 14th general election (GE14) had also increased to 28,356 from 24,497 in GE13.
Rohiman said a total of 19,792 EC workers would be deployed across Sabah and 458 to Labuan to manage 810 polling centres in 25 parliamentary and 60 state constituencies in Sabah and one parliamentary constituency in Labuan.
“In terms of logistics, we are ready, including to use helicopters and boats in 10 parliamentary constituencies in the interior areas such as Kudat, Semporna and Beluran,” he told reporters after presenting writ to returning officers in Sabah and Labuan here today.
Rohiman said that the Sabah EC had yet to obtain the total number of postal voters as the registration process was still underway.
He said the closing date for the application for postal voting in the country for the Form 1A category is April 28 and for the Form 1C category, April 23.
The 1A category involves election workers, police and military personnel, as well as media practitioners, while the 1C category involves employees of nine departments and agencies who are required to be on duty on polling day.
The departments and agencies are the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Prisons Department, Fire and Rescue Department, Health Department (government hospitals and clinics), Auxiliary Police, Malaysian Civil Defence Force, Immigration Department, National Disaster Management Agency and the National Registration Department (only for staff at Urban Transformation Centre).
