The waiver proposed by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) is unprecedented and a violation of the Societies Act 1966 and the party’s constitution.
Registry of Societies (ROS) director-general Surayati Ibrahim said she has to refer to the legal advisers and needed a week to scrutinise the proposed waiver.
“There are many waivers proposed. I am not sure whether the Societies Act 1966 empowers the ROS to allow the waivers sought by the party, the ROS has done its job in accordance with the law. As I said earlier, an organisation should abide by its own constitution and the Societies Act 1966,” she told reporters today.
Surayati said the proposed waivers include how to hold the annual general meeting (AGM) and how to amend the party’s constitution.
“So, I am not sure whether the ROS or the department can give the waiver. This is because PPBM wants a waiver to something in the party’s constitution.
The ROS may de-register PPBM if the party fails to resolve its internal issues and hold the AGM which should have been held in September.
The party’s failure to hold the AGM was due to problems involving its branches and divisions.
