With the ” Blessing’s” of party President Datuk Seri Wan Azizah and the political bureau, PKR vice-president and party Secretary-General Rafizi Ramli today filed a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over claims that money and women were sought in negotiations with the Selangor government.
He arrived at the commission’s headquarters here, at around 11.45am today and did not come out until about an hour later.
Accompanying him were Pakatan Harapan chief secretary Saifuddin Abdullah, Kelana Jaya and Kapar parliamentarians, Wong Chen and G. Manivannan, respectively.
“I have given the information that I have thus far to the MACC concerning complaints against the running of the Selangor state government,” he said after exiting the building.
“My only hope is that we give room for MACC to conduct investigations without being hindered by politics or perception,” he said.
“I think the worst thing that could happen is that MACC is always seen as being stuck in political play. This (lodging a report) is something normal that should be done by members of the public,” he said.
“By right, it should not be an issue but we are used to a culture where anything can become political,” he said.
“This is in addition to the fact that I as PKR secretary-general was asked by the political bureau to make a report to MACC on misconduct by our own party members. I know it’s a rare thing but this should be the culture,” he said.
Rafizi also called on the public to be fair to both the state government and to MACC. He added that if the commission finds a basis to the allegations, they will continue the investigation.
The allegation came to the public’s attention after a screenshot of a WhatsApp group chat, in which Rafizi had claimed to have received complaints on the said incident, was leaked.
Rafizi then presented evidence to PKR’s political bureau where he was given “full blessings” to take it to the MACC.
Selangor Menteri Besar and PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, however, dismissed the allegations, claiming it was merely part of a smear campaign against the state government.
