Several elected representatives see PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli’s appeal to Barisan Nasional MPs to join the opposition in tabling a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as nothing more than a desperate attempt to topple the government.
Sekijang MP Anuar Abd Manap, asked to comment on the matter, said Rafizi’s appeal was an exercise in futility.
“Only the opposition MPs are in disagreement with the Prime Minister. We in the BN are together in supporting the PM.
“I believe it is just wishful thinking of the opposition. It looks like they really hope we will go ahead. Why must we go with them?” he told Bernama Thursday at the lobby of Parliament.
Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) president Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said BN MPs, including those from PBRS, did not at all support Rafizi in the matter.
Kurup (BN-Pensiangan) said PBRS discussed the matter and decided to continue to support the leadership of Najib.
“We do not support the opposition because we believe that the Prime Minister has worked hard to transform the people in the face of many challenges,” he said.
Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari, in his response, said: “He (Rafizi) is also not right ….”
PAS Dewan Ulama Information chief Datuk Dr Khairuddin Aman Razali (PAS-Kuala Nerus) said Rafizi’s appeal was not consistent with his position as the PKR secretary-general.
He said PAS wanted to unseat the BN and Najib but would do so only through a general election and not any other means.
Rafizi (PKR-Pandan), when speaking today during the debate on the motion of thanks to the royal address in the Dewan Rakyat, had suggested that MPs from the opposition and BN support a vote of no-confidence against the prime minister.
