Sabah UMNO Youth supports the call for more new faces to be fielded as candidates in the 14th general election (GE14) as it is inline with the leadership transition process, said its Information chief, Mohd Arshad Bistar.
He said the matter, which was raised by Batu Sapi UMNO Youth leader Khairul Firdaus Datuk Akhbar Khan during the debate session of the movement’s assembly, was not intended to deny the present leadership, but to ensure continuity of the party’s struggle.
“We hope it will not be misconstrued. Instead, it should be looked at a mature way to prepare future leaders,” he told reporters at the 2017 UMNO General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre today.
Mohd Arshad, who is also Kota Belud UMNO Youth leader, said it was also in tandem with the aspiration of the National Transformation (TN50) introduced by the government to empower the young generation as future leaders.
He called on youth leaders at all levels to explain the matter to the grassroots to ensure continuity of the party struggle and for future generations.
