The state government will continue to defend Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), assures Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman.
“Our stand in this matter is clear,” he told a media conference after the State Legislative Assembly sitting in Kota Kinabalu, Thursday.
He disclosed that MA63 was among the issues that were debated during the state assembly sitting and the state government had responded to the questions, explained its stand and furnished evidence of the steps it had taken on the issue.
Musa said the state government was open and accept constructive views and positive suggestions from state assemblymen including those from the opposition.
“Any view and suggestion that benefits the people and state based on the law and constitution, we accept, including on our rights and interests in MA63.
“However, we should not politicise the issue; we must be more realistic and accept the fact that development, progress for the people and Sabah had been expressed and championed by the Barisan Nasional government both at state and national level. The people have benefited much,” he said.
Meanwhile, Musa hoped the explanation regarding the economy, the state’s financial status and State Budget 2018 at the winding up debate for the state Finance Ministry yesterday had enlightened the assemblymen including the opposition.
“This is important so that the people have a clear picture and not be influenced by certain quarters who are out to exploit and twist facts for their own interest,” he said.
Musa who is also Finance Minister said the surplus 2018 state budget totalling RM4.104 billion reflected the state government’s efficient and effective financial management.
“What is important is that we must remain united and work together in making every plan and agenda in Budget 2018 a success for the people,” he said.
