The uniqueness of traditional sports can be highlighted not only as a cultural heritage, but also as attractive tourism products, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.
However, he said that efforts to promote and spread their uniqueness still needed to be intensified whether at the domestic or international stage.
“In this context, I urge that effective measures be taken by everyone, not only by government departments and agencies, but also by the private sector and non-governmental organisations.
“Let us all work together to rekindle interest among the general public, particularly the younger generation, toward traditional sports,” he said when officiating the Kadazandusun Murut Traditional Sports and Exhibition in conjunction with the Kaamatan Festival, here Monday.
Musa said the traditional sports portrayed the beauty of the ethnic cultures in Sabah and were capable of forging closer ties between the people of various races and religions.
“Our ability to live in peace and harmony has become our pride and awed tourists coming to this state.
“As such, we must have political stability, mutual love and respect to preserve this beauty,” he said.
Musa emphasised on the continued commitment of the state government to promote the uniqueness and treasures of the cultural heritage in the state which also needed the support of everyone.
